The National Park is adjacent to the town and there are woodland rambles, lakeside tracks and some of the finest scenery in Ireland just minutes way. The mountains of Torc and Mangerton just outside the town are popular day hikes offering great views of the surrounding countryside. The long distance walking route known as the Kerry Way starts in the town and winds its way through spectacular countryside covering some 150 miles down into south west Kerry and back to Killarney again. Muckross House and Gardens and the Traditional Farms are well within walking distance for the energetic approximately three miles (5 kilometres) from the town.
